Tongue Tie Assessment and Division

Because feeding your baby shouldn't feel
like something you have to survive

You thought it would be instinctive.  You thought it would just… work.

Instead; you’re bracing yourself before every latch.  Your nipples are cracked, sore, maybe bleeding.  Your baby keeps slipping off, clicking, crying.  Feeds take forever… and still don’t feel enough.

And there’s a question running in the back of your mind:

“Is it me… or is something actually wrong?”

You're not imagining it.

You might have been told:

"Some discomfort is normal."

"Just keep going."

"Your baby will figure it out."

But you know something isn't right. This doesn't feel like a learning curve. It feels like a battle!

My Story

I've been where you are.

Both of my babies had tongue-ties.

With my first, we went through the NHS. We were seen quickly. The tongue-tie was diagnosed and the division was done that same appointment. I remember feeling so relieved walking in.

But then I walked out and thought: that didn't feel right.

The division had only cut part of the restriction.

But I was two days postpartum. In pain. Exhausted. Overwhelmed. And I didn't know how to say "I think this has been done wrong."

So I didn't.

What followed was six weeks of painful feeds, a baby who struggled to stay latched and a milk supply that was dwindling under the pressure of it all.

Six weeks of wondering if it was actually me.

Because it's not just physical, is it.

It's the dread before every feed. The clock-watching. The Google searches at 2am.  Wondering if they got enough, if they'll wake up hungry again and if this is ever going to feel normal. The fear that you're failing your baby.

With my second, I knew I couldn't go through that again. So I went privately.

Clinically, the care was good. But I still felt alone through it. Because when feeding has already been hard once, you don't just need someone who's clinically competent. You need someone who actually slows down. Who explains what they're doing and why. Who makes space for how overwhelming and exhausting this whole thing has been.

I didn't get that second time either.

That's why I do this work now.

What Happens at an Appointment?

This isn't a quick peek under your baby's tongue and a yes or no.

Feeding problems are rarely that simple.

Pregnancy & Birth History

Sometimes feeding difficulties start long before a baby ever reaches the breast.

So we talk about your pregnancy, birth and those first few days too. Things like whether your baby always had hiccups, difficult birth and previous feeding experiences or concerns around milk supply can all provide pieces of the puzzle about what is causing your feeding difficulties.

Because often, it’s not just one thing. And I never want you leaving feeling like the whole weight of this sits on your shoulders.

Feeding History

I look at how your baby feeds, not just what their tongue looks like, because a tongue-tie in isolation doesn't tell the whole story.

We go through a feed together. How they latch, whether they stay on (breast or bottle), whether they're actually getting milk or working hard for very little. So we're not guessing: we're looking at the full picture.

Assessing Your Pain

I take your experience incredibly seriously. Not just "is there pain?" but where does it hurt, when does it hurt, what have the last few days or weeks have felt like for you.

Those details tell us whether this is likely to improve with the right support, or whether something else is getting in the way.

Tongue Function Assessment

We assess tongue function properly. Not just how it looks; some ties look obvious and cause no issues at all, others look subtle and are creating real problems. What matters is how the tongue moves and whether it can do what it needs to do for effective feeding.

Space to Make Your Own Decision

Then we have a full, informed chat about what's going on, what your options are, and what difference a division is actually likely to make. So any decision you make feels like yours and not one you were pushed into.

Immediate Feeding Support After Division

If your baby has a division, support doesn’t stop there.

You'll feed straight afterwards and we'll work through things together. Sometimes babies feed differently immediately, sometimes it takes a little time and practice, especially if they’ve spent weeks compensating.

We talk through what’s normal, what to expect, and how to help both you and your baby adjust.

Because being handed your baby back and sent on your way can feel incredibly overwhelming when you’re already exhausted and emotional.

Follow Up Support

You’re not left alone to figure things out after the appointment.

Because questions nearly always come once you get home.

Follow-up support means you have someone you already know to check in with, rather trying to untangle ten conflicting opinions online.

Why Families Choose Me

I don't see this as "just a tongue-tie."

I see the mum who is exhausted. The baby who is struggling. The feeding relationship that has taken a battering and needs proper support to recover.

I know how fast this can spiral when it isn't handled well. You won't be rushed, dismissed, or left walking out of an appointment wondering what just happened.
